Comprehensive behavioral health treatment facilities for adults in a safe and comforting atmosphere in Southern California and Arizona.
Failure to launch is a condition that affects teens and young adults. It causes them to have difficulties leaving home and becoming independent. For the young person, it can become extremely challenging for them to step outside their comfort zone and take the necessary steps to transition into adulthood fully. It can be equally frustrating for their parents because they want their child to do well but often are unsure what they should do to help.
At Montare Behavioral Health, we provide personalized and comprehensive evidence-based treatment and therapies to help teens and young adults overcome failure to launch. We also offer valuable resources and support to help parents.
Failure to launch is not a term or condition recognized in the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders, Fifth Edition). However, it is used to describe a situation where a teen or young adult is finding it difficult to transition into adulthood. They cannot support themselves, are independent on their parents, and feel stuck and unsure of what they are supposed to do.
Please remember that some young adults return home after college while transitioning to the next chapter in their lives. This has become acceptable behavior as long as the young person is making an effort to become independent.

The treatment options for failure to launch will vary based on the underlying causes of this condition as well as the problems it is causing in ones life. Generally, most teens and young adults may only require outpatient treatment, where they attend treatment for a few hours daily, several times weekly.
In situations where they require more intensive treatment, full-day treatment programs, such as PHPs (partial hospitalization programs) or IOPs (intensive outpatient programs), may be more appropriate.
There are also telehealth treatment programs for failure to launch where young adults can receive the treatment they need from the comfort of home. In extreme cases where the young person is a harm to themselves or others or lacks a supportive home environment, residential programs could be beneficial.
