Frequently Asked Questions About Montare Behavioral Health
Montare Behavioral Health is a network of adult mental health treatment programs serving Southern California, Phoenix, and Tucson. Depending on the location and a person’s clinical needs, treatment may include residential care, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient treatment, traditional outpatient services, supportive transitional living, or telehealth IOP.
The following frequently asked questions explain who Montare serves, what the network treats, where its programs are located, how insurance verification works, and how to begin the admissions process.
What is Montare Behavioral Health?
Montare Behavioral Health is a network of mental health treatment programs for adults. Its programs combine psychiatric care, psychotherapy, medication management when appropriate, evidence-based treatment methods, holistic services, and individualized treatment planning. Specific services and levels of care vary by location.
When was Montare Behavioral Health established?
Montare Behavioral Health was founded in 2020. Some legal entities associated with individual programs were formed earlier, so 2020 refers to the founding of the Montare Behavioral Health brand rather than the formation date of every operating entity.
Where are Montare Behavioral Health’s treatment centers?
Montare’s current location directory lists the following programs:
California
- Montare at the Lake in Encino
- Montare at the Oasis in Tarzana
- Montare Center for Healing in Encino
- Montare Palomar in Tarzana
- Montare Amigo in Tarzana
- Montare Outpatient in Encino
Arizona
- Montare Tucson in Tucson
Available programming differs by facility. For example, Montare Center for Healing is listed as a women-only residential program, Montare at the Oasis offers coed residential programming, and Montare Tucson lists equine therapy as an available service.
How does the Montare admissions process work?
The admissions process generally begins with a confidential phone call or online inquiry. Montare’s team discusses the person’s current concerns, treatment needs, location preferences, and potential insurance coverage. When a program appears appropriate, the team can help schedule admission. After arrival, the client works with clinical and medical professionals to develop an individualized treatment plan.
Final admission decisions depend on clinical appropriateness, safety, program availability, and the services offered at the selected location.
What levels of care does Montare Behavioral Health provide?
Depending on the location, Montare offers:
- Residential/inpatient mental health treatment
- Partial hospitalization or day treatment
- Intensive outpatient programs
- Traditional outpatient treatment
- Telehealth intensive outpatient treatment
- Supportive or transitional living connected with certain outpatient programs
- Alumni support, aftercare planning, and care coordination
Not every facility provides every level of care. Admissions can help determine which location and program best match the person’s needs.
What mental health services are directly provided?
Services may include psychiatric evaluation, medication management, individual therapy, group therapy, family or couples therapy, psychoeducation, case management, experiential treatment, wellness services, and discharge planning.
Available therapeutic approaches may include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, EMDR, somatic therapy, trauma-focused treatment, neurofeedback, TMS, art therapy, psychodrama, mindfulness, meditation, and other holistic services. The exact combination depends on the facility, clinician recommendations, and individualized treatment plan.
Does Montare coordinate outside referrals?
When a person needs a service that is not offered by the selected Montare program, the admissions or clinical team can discuss a more appropriate level of care and help with next-step planning. This may include coordination with hospitals, medical providers, withdrawal-management programs, community professionals, or continuing-care providers.
Discharge planning and care coordination are parts of our broader treatment approach.
Is Montare Behavioral Health licensed and accredited?
The Joint Commission lists Montage Recovery CA, LLC as accredited for Behavioral Health Care and Human Services. The organization’s Joint Commission listing identifies HCO ID 644281 and includes Canyon Behavioral Health LLC in Tucson as a listed site.
Our website also displays California Department of Social Services License #197610020. Because state licenses generally apply to specific programs, entities, and addresses, prospective clients should verify the license and regulatory status of the particular facility they are considering.
What age range does Montare Behavioral Health serve?
Montare Behavioral Health primarily serves adults age 18 and older. Admission eligibility is determined through an individualized assessment, and a particular location may have additional clinical or program-specific requirements.
Does Montare treat men and women?
Yes. Montare serves men and women, but gender accommodations differ by facility. Some locations offer coed programming, while Montare Center for Healing is identified as a women-only residential program. Montare also identifies specialized or affirming services for young adults, veterans, and LGBTQ+ clients.
Admissions can explain room arrangements, gender-specific programming, privacy accommodations, and the population served at a particular facility.
What mental health conditions does Montare treat?
Depending on clinical appropriateness and location, Montare treats conditions such as:
- Anxiety and panic disorders
- Depression
- Treatment-resistant depression
- Bipolar disorder
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Complex trauma
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Borderline personality disorder
- Other personality disorders
- ADHD
- Schizophrenia and other thought disorders
- Psychotic disorders
- Eating disorders or disordered eating concerns
- Seasonal affective disorder
- Sleep-deprivation psychosis
- Failure-to-launch concerns
- Grief, relational distress, and attachment-related concerns
- Dual-diagnosis and co-occurring conditions
A diagnosis alone does not guarantee admission. Montare’s clinical team evaluates symptom severity, safety, medical needs, treatment goals, and whether a particular facility can provide the appropriate level of support.
Does Montare offer residential or inpatient mental health treatment?
Montare offers live-in residential psychiatric treatment at multiple California and Arizona facilities. Residential care provides a structured environment, regular therapeutic programming, psychiatric support, and supervision while the client lives at the treatment location.
Some Montare pages use the word “inpatient” when describing residential care. The exact licensed level of care and clinical acuity should be confirmed with admissions because residential treatment, subacute psychiatric care, and hospital-based inpatient treatment are not necessarily the same service.
Does Montare offer PHP, IOP, and outpatient treatment?
Yes. Montare offers partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and traditional outpatient services through selected programs. Its Encino outpatient program also lists transitional living as available.
The appropriate program depends on symptom severity, daily functioning, home environment, treatment history, safety, and the amount of structure the person needs.
Does Montare offer telehealth mental health treatment?
Montare offers a telehealth intensive outpatient program in California and Arizona. Published telehealth services include individual and group therapy, CBT, DBT, psychoeducation, relapse-prevention support, trauma-resiliency work, acceptance and commitment therapy, and other therapeutic services delivered through secure platforms.
Telehealth eligibility depends on the client’s physical location, provider licensing, clinical needs, privacy, technology access, and insurance authorization. Montare should not be described as providing nationwide telehealth.
Does Montare Behavioral Health accept insurance?
Yes, Montare accepts most private health insurance plans and offers self-pay options. Our California insurance page specifically references major PPO plans and some HMO plans. Coverage varies by insurer, state, facility, level of care, medical necessity requirements, and the terms of the individual policy.
Admissions can verify benefits and provide an estimate of potential coverage before admission. Insurance verification does not guarantee that an insurer will authorize or pay for every recommended service.
Does Montare accept Medicaid, Medi-Cal, or Medicare?
No, and our insurance page also states that the organization does not participate in Medicaid, Medi-Cal, Medicare, or state-funded Medicaid programs. People without participating private insurance may ask admissions about self-pay options or other appropriate treatment resources.
Does Montare work with veterans or TriWest?
Yes. Montare offers a veteran-focused program called R.S.V.P. and states that it accepts most private insurance plans as well as coverage through the TriWest Healthcare Alliance for qualifying veteran services. Eligibility and authorization should be confirmed before admission.
Is housing included with Montare treatment?
Clients receiving residential treatment live at the residential facility during the program. Supportive or transitional living may also be available alongside certain outpatient programs, including Montare Outpatient in Encino.
Housing availability, eligibility, rules, costs, insurance coverage, and billing arrangements should be confirmed separately with admissions. Housing should not be described as automatically included with every outpatient program.
Does Montare provide transportation?
Transportation arrangements vary by facility, program, and individual circumstances. Admissions can discuss arrival planning, local transportation needs, and whether any facility-specific transportation assistance is available.
Airport pickup, routine transportation, or transportation to outside appointments should not be promised unless the selected facility confirms the service before admission.
How long does treatment at Montare last?
There is no single treatment length for every client. Duration depends on the level of care, clinical assessment, symptoms, progress, insurance authorization, home environment, and discharge plan.
Our PHP is approximately eight hours of treatment per day, five days per week. Our IOP is approximately three hours per day, with attendance available up to five days per week. Schedules for other programs and populations may differ.
Can Montare help someone experiencing a mental health emergency?
Montare may treat people with histories of suicidality, psychosis, or other serious psychiatric symptoms when clinically appropriate, but our admissions line and website contact forms are not substitutes for emergency services.
Someone in immediate danger, experiencing a medical emergency, or unable to remain safe should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Anyone who needs immediate crisis support can call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
