He was recently named One of the 50 Most Influential Living Psychologists. He completed his B.A. at Yale and his Ph.D. in Psychology at UCLA. Norman has developed an expertise in psychiatrically complex populations, and his primary areas of interest are the application of a transdiagnostic framework for eating disorders, taking an evolutionary approach to shame and anxiety, and minority mental health. He is a regular national and international speaker, educator, and passionate advocate with a particular focus on minority status and barriers to mental health care in marginalized communities. He was the founding co-chair of the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Committee of IAEDP, on the inaugural Behavioral Health Taskforce for the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, former board member of the Eating Disorders Coalition, and serves on numerous advisory boards. Most recently Norman was the Deputy Director of Ayana Therapy, a tech startup focused on providing culturally intelligent, adapted, and accessible care to marginalized communities, and was the co-founder of Reasons Eating Disorder Center.

Reconceptualizing Borderline Personality Disorder BPD Through a Trauma Disorder Lens

This talk is designed to assist participants with evaluating and challenging current assumptions about borderline personality disorder (BPD), and to explore BPD symptoms and traits from a trauma disorder perspective.

This workshop will cover the neurological, biological, psychological, and social effects of trauma, overlapping features of trauma responses and BPD symptoms, and implications for diagnosis and intervention. The goal of this workshop is to provide clinicians with education and diagnostic skills that will enhance trauma-informed treatment. Dr. Dzioba is the Chief Clinical Officer for Montare Behavioral Health. He currently is a consultant with the United States Senate and has provided services to numerous first responder agencies, following traumatic incidents, including the FBI Secret Service, NASA, the US Attorney’s office, and the US Army. For over 40 years, he’s worked with families of first responders killed in the line of duty. Along with teaching basic training at EMDR therapy workshops internationally, Dr. Solomon presents workshops on the utilization of EMDR therapy with grief and mourning, complex trauma, and dissociative symptoms.
